    LEMON MYRTLE

    Down To Earth are proud to incorporate the very iconic Lemon Myrtle first discovered in our region – Northern NSW and Queensland.  Backhousia citriodora as its botanically named is a flowering plant in the family Myrtaceae.  Anciently used for culinary and medicinal benefits, it would keep it’s potency all thorughout colonial Australia where it would be commercially sold as early as 1889.  It’s a lemon scented symbol of therapy, sanitisation, culinary and aromatic ingenuity.

    PINEAPPLE MYRTLE

    Remarkably complex and fruity, this recently discovered essential oil is very rare in the wild, distilled from a single plant (not a blend) giving energy, refreshment and positivity.  Think also banana trees and fruit salads as an aroma!  It’s an extremely rare tree growing to a maximum height of 10 metres in the wild.  The leaves and green branchlets are hand harvested and immediately steam distilled.  A rare, subtropical specimen doing nothing but making people happy!

    A fragrant juicy green mango scented tree, extremely rare in the wild, and also grows to a maximum of 10m.  The leaves and branchlets are steam distilled to bring a 100% pure essential oil boating a summery, calming and balanced aroma with terpene profile very similar to that of Cannabis.

    In complete acknowledgement and respect for Australia’s indigenous people and cultural lands, we have sourced our unique native Australian essences from our lovely supplier, Greg who is successfully growing, distilling and cultivating Australian essential oils in the Byron Bay Hinterland region.  

    His cultivation story began after encountering an understanding of the vastness of medicinal and therapeutic plants in the Australian wild, plus Byron Bay’s renown rich biodiversity in the area, its rainfall and especially the rich red volcanic soil, the hinterland area showed it did not have its limits for what could be found! 

    His hard work, connection with local peoples, distillation trials, laboratory testing, chemical profiling, and human trials, resulted in some of the most aromatic, world unique, native and ground breaking Australian essential oils ever produced, and sourced from non-commercialised new plant species!

    At our supplier’s Byron Bay hinterland plantation, they are successfully growing and distilling a wide range of native Australian essential oils.  Some of the best oils we bring to you – Pineapple Myrtle (a new discovery and it makes people happy!) and Mango Myrtle (Cannabis-like properties, fruity & calming).
